Haslam Park's new sensory garden

Print

Haslam Park's new sensory garden was designed and built by the Friends of Haslam Park and other volunteers in 2008. £10,000 of National Lottery money was used to create the garden.

The plants used were selected for their sensory properties.

The central beds are raised to enable everyone to feel and smell the plants without the need to bend. They contain aromatic herbs, waving grasses and plants with textured foliage.

The ground beds are planted with rustling bamboo, colourful shrubs, showy perennials and spring bulbs.

Various specimen trees provide fragrant blossom and autumn colour.

Congratulations to all those who worked at getting the funding and building the garden. Great to see such positive developments in one of Ashton's prized parks.

Thanks
